The Olde Tyme Courtsquare Opry
The Olde Tyme Courtsquare Opry, was the best kept secret in Shelby! (Many have told us anyway!) It was the location for over 600 bluegrass shows by some amazing artists from all over the country and world! A little stage in the corner of the back of our retail comic book store would come alive every Saturday night from about 1995 through 2008, with the sounds of live bluegrass. Many of the bands were being heard on radio stations everywhere and some were even known world wide. Fragment, the #1 European Bluegrass Band, opened their US Tour at our location and we even produced a CD that sold several thousand copies. Some bands even had famous members like the New River band that had local Doctor Bobby Jones and Horrace Scruggs (yes THAT Scruggs, his older brother acutally), Steep Canyon Rangers (before Steve Martin), Lost and Found with Alan Mills, and many more.
